Algarve has some of the best beaches in the world. The western and eastern parts of Algarve have quieter beaches, particularly till the beginning of when the holidaymakers haven’t really arrived. Central Algarve has the most happening beaches, where you can really feel the energy and have fun.
Algarve boasts 88 Blue Flag beaches, spread across West, East, and Central Algarve.
Western Algarve Beaches
Beaches on the Western Algarve are sublime stretches of white and golden sand, against a dramatic backdrop of cliffs and rocks that have been shaped by the elements. Here the winds are strong and the coastline much more secluded than what you’d expect in the east and central regions of Algarve.
These are beaches between Sagres and Portimao, including those in Aljezur, Lagos, and Vila do Bispo.
Among all these beaches, you will find some lovely just to rest, others to practice different types of water and sports activities, and others to visit with family and friends. The most important is to explore the best that each beach and its surroundings have to offer in terms of daytime and evening activities.
A common characteristic to all beaches in the Algarve is that the most western shores are those with colder waters and stronger winds, while temperatures on the beaches to the eastern and south tend to be more warm and soft.
The whole area offers a great quality of life and, in many cases, the choice of accommodation, areas and beaches to visit depend only on personal choice.
